OUR OBJECTIVES

At Duke Hall School, our main concern is for the individual and we undertake to:

  • Provide a happy and caring school community where academic attainment, creativity, supportive Godly and moral counsel and care combine to offer the children a high quality and balanced education.
  • Expose the children to an international curriculum, which will give children a knowledge and understanding of their own culture and an understanding of other culture and tradition. A curriculum that will enable them compete in every aspect (morally, academically and innovation) with other children globally.
  • Celebrate and promote each child’s individuality in all areas of learning.
  • Foster the spirit of cooperation and appreciation of each person’s initiative and uniqueness, irrespective of creed, race or religion.
  • Develop in each child, a healthy self-esteem and ability to approach tasks with confidence.
  • Foster an environment where children show care and respect not only for others but also for the school environment.
  • Encourage the children to be at ease with themselves in a variety of situation in order to develop their adaptability.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field of education as related to children.

We believe that:

  • Education is dynamic and society is ever-changing.
  • No two children are the same and that each child is a unique individual endowed with his own potentials which should be admired and valued.
  • Each child has a unique personality and will approach learning in his own way.
  • The purpose of education as given by us is to foster the total development of the child across all planes of development – physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual.
  • Proper education should reflect a balance of the academic and creative areas in recognition of the function of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
  • Self-discipline (not imposed discipline, is the highest form of discipline to be achieved by the child, while intrinsic motivation (rather than external motivation) is the impetus for learning).
  • Parents are the first educators of their children and that partnership with them is most essential for the success of the child’s education.
  • Our learners must be thoroughly furnished unto good works, disciplined and creative learners who seek the good of others and service to their community and mankind in general, over and above their personal gain or development.
  • As a school, we must embrace all cultures, promote individual development and success and foster a sense of belonging and responsibility within the school community including involvement with the larger community in general.
  • As a school, we must prepare our school leavers for the next level of education, and instill in them, a desire for life-long learning for the benefit of their community and country.
  • As caregivers and educators of children, we must have a genuine love for and a thorough comprehension of children. Staff must be certified, skilled and have a desire to continuously seek to improve on their knowledge through interest in the affairs of their immediate environment, their country and even further afield.

To this end therefore, we endeavour to provide a carefully planned and structured educational experience which:

  1. Builds the child’s knowledge from the known to the unknown and from the simple to the complex.
  2. Focuses on the in-depth understanding of concepts and knowledge of subject matter including the mastery of skills where necessary.
  3. Promotes cooperation in work and play.
  4. Fosters the imagination and creativity of the child through the use of concrete materials, which in turn develop a desire for exploration, curiosity and a love for learning.
  5. Cultivates in the child, an understanding and appreciation  of his world and his position in relation to things in his world.
